Absolutely. I mean in order to open up a claim with your insurance company, you need to give them a call, fill out any documentation they want, but you want to make sure that when you make that claim, it’s as soon as practically possible. The longer you wait to make your claim, the more argument you give the insurance company to deny your claim and say that they’ve been prejudiced because they didn’t have enough time to come out and inspect your property before the condition got worse.
Filing a claim though is different than bringing a lawsuit. Once you make a claim, you’re putting the insurance company on notice that you have damage to your property. They have the right to come out and inspect and then make some kind of coverage decision, but you don’t have to be bound by the decision that they make. Just because they deny your claim or say it’s worth a certain amount, you don’t have to stick with whatever their decision is. You can come to us, we’ll get a second opinion on it. We’ll hire experts and professionals to come out and look at your property to make sure that we’re getting you all the money that you’re due and really afforded under your contract.
