Uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage is your safety blanket. That’s what you have in case all other things go wrong. If a car jumps a curb and hits you, and that driver has no insurance coverage, no bodily injury coverage, you’re covered. If you’re rear-ended on 95, you’re covered. If you are going through an intersection and a car strikes your car, you’re covered if those drivers don’t have bodily injury insurance coverage. That’s why I tell all my clients that’s the most important thing you can keep in your wallet, is uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage. Because it allows you to go after your own insurance company as if they were the insurance company of the driver that hit you. And you are covered in the event that that other driver isn’t.
